They tell women like us that we need to become. That reward is there for us if we become patient enough. We’ll find love if we become desirable enough. Manageable enough. That our hair is something that needs to be done. They tell women like us that beautiful is something we become. When really, beautiful is something we have always been. When we unravel ourselves, we’re free to define beauty as who we are. Unbecoming. What’s unbecoming of a black woman is becoming who you are. SUPER: My black is beautiful
